Barcelona won their 4th European title this past Saturday at Wembley Stadium in London, England over European rivals Manchester United. And they did it in convincing fashion with a 3-1 victory on English soil over an English team. This is their 2nd Champions League trophy in the past 3 years with the other one in 2009 also won over Manchester United as well. Barcelona dominated play with almost 70% possession over the entire match. The scoring was opened up with an excellent pass to Pedro from Xavi Hernandez as Pedro netted the ball past United keeper Van der Sar near post. United quickly answered with their only goal and shot of the match as Barcelona made an error on a throw in that Manchester intercepted and Rooney scoring after a give and go pass from Ryan Giggs. Giggs appeared to be offsides though when Rooney passed him the initial ball. The score was all tied up at 1 at the half. The 2nd half belonged solely to Barcelona. They just simply outclassed United with brilliant technique and passing that left Manchester with no answer. World Player of the Year Lionel Messi blasted home the go ahead goal with a left footed rocket strike from a good distance outside the box. The Catalan fans erupted at Wembley. Then David Villa sealed it with a clinical precision strike that bended into the upper 90 post past the outstretched arms of Van der Sar. United Manager Alex Ferguson watched helplessly as Barcelona ran away with European soccer's most coveted prize.
